Biographical

Before practicing in North Carolina, Jon clerked for the late Judge Richard T. Rives of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and practiced with Carter, Ledyard and Milburn in New York City. He taught corporate finance (securities regulation) at the law schools of Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and employment and labor law at Wake Forest School of Law. He is co-author of the practice volume of Larson's Employment Discrimination and has authored numerous articles, essays and portions of books dealing a variety of legal topics, including dispute resolution.  He became a visiting research fellow at Harvard Law School in the Labor and Worklife Program beginning in the summer of 2018.

Jon has served as Chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section, Appellate Rules Committee and Labor and Employment Section, as well as President of the District Bar and Co-Chair of the ABA's Subcommittee on Employment at Will - Legislation. He has been listed in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America. He is a certified mediator and has served as a special master, arbitrator, and private judge. His practice is limited to serving as a dispute resolution neutral. Jon has mediated well over 4000 cases since about 1992 and has served as an arbitrator, private judge or special master in more than 100 cases.
