Biographical

Mr. Beskind has been a practicing lawyer for over 40 years, handling both civil and criminal cases. His civil practice has covered virtually every kind of litigated matter. Since 1977, Mr. Beskind has been on the faculty at Duke Law School and taught primarily the courses in Tort, Trial Skills and Evidence.  Involved in mediation and private adjudication for more than 30 years, Mr. Beskind has handled everything from routine two party tort cases to high-stakes complex multiparty tort and commercial cases.

Rates Information

Mediation Fee Schedule

 This fee schedule is effective for all new mediations booked on or after January 1, 2026

Certification: Mr. Beskind is a certified mediator in North Carolina.   

Administrative Fee:  $250.00 per party

Travel Fee:  For all actual travel time after the first 30 minutes per day at $200.00 per hour plus miles and travel meals (split evenly among parties).

Pre-Mediation Preparation:

  • Fee for pre-mediation preparation (reviewing mediation memos or other materials), is charged at the same hourly rate as for a mediation. 
  • Fee for pre-mediation consultation (charged solely to the party or parties involved in the specific consultation):  $550.00 per hour.

Mediation Fees

  • $275.00 per hour per party (2 parties)
  • $200.00 per hour per party (3 parties)
  • $150.00 per hour per party (4 or more parties)

       A “party” is a person or entity.  If two or more persons or entities are represented by a single counsel or group of counsel, they are considered one party for billing purposes.

       All hourly rates are subject to a three-hour minimum if the mediation is held.

Cancellation or Rescheduling Fees:

  • No fee if a mediation is cancelled or rescheduled more than seven full days before the scheduled mediation date
  • 2-hour charge at the same hourly rate as for the scheduled mediation if the session is cancelled or rescheduled seven full days or less in advance of its date.
