PROFESSIONAL INFORMATION

Biographical Notes:

I practiced law in Winston-Salem from 1965 thru 1995 specializing in Civil Trial work. During that time I was very active in the North Carolina Bar association, serving on the Board of Governors from 1977-1980. I also served as either chairman or member of at least 5 committees such as the Judicial Liaison, Appellate Rules committee, Administration of Justice committee, etc. I served for five years on the North Carolina General Statutes Commission.I was a charter member of the North Carolina Defense Attorneys and a member of the International Association of Insurance Counsel.

I received my mediation certification in 1996 and ceased the active practice of law. Since I thought it was proper for a mediator to be as impartial as possible, I ended my membership in all the above associations. Since 1996 I have conducted between 2500 and 3000 mediations and have sat on over 100 Arbitration panels.

I have mediation experience in all types of disputes except domestic cases which I refuse. I have mediated personal injury, construction disputes, condemnation actions, school board disputes, collections matters, employment cases, malpractice cases, etc. I was a member of the adjunct faculty at Wake Forest for 15 years teaching insurance and as a result mediated many insurance matters. I have also mediated a number of NASCAR disputes. I also somewhat specialize in Worker's Comp with about 30% of my cases being in that field.
