Biographical Notes:

Michael began practicing in 1977 in Raleigh with an insurance defense/corporate law firm. His area of practice was primarily insurance defense.  Some members of that firm formed a partnership that practicing criminal law, business law and real estate.  After he moved to Lexington in 1984, his practice became increasingly concentrated in workers' compensation, personal injury and civil litigation. A large number of his cases have been out of state, including Kentucky, Alabama, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee, Texas and Washington, D.C.

Michael is certified to mediate cases in state trial courts, before the Industrial Commission and in matters before the Clerk.  He has mediated over five hundred cases over the last 20+ years.  As of January 1, 2017, he will be mediating full time.

His mediation experience has been in cases involving insurance law, personal injury, workers' compensation and matters before the Clerk [estate conflict/real property].

His case and personal experiences have included elder law matters, including guardianship, conflicts arising out of estate/probate matters and conflicts withing family businesses. Mediation can be a uniquely important and effective tool in cases of family conflict where the estranged parties have previously had long personal relationships.  In this situation, one can sometimes see the dispute resolution open a path to restored relationships down the road.
